Dinner tonight courtesy of the greenmarket on W 79th: (my lazy bum actually cooked) roasted wild caught sea trout with fennel and raisins and a white wine-olive oil reduction, and roasted peruvian purple fingerling potatoes. Debating over whether I am too full for salad. *___* thanks mom and dad for dealing with my panicked phone calls over fish and fennel. I BOUGHT THIS AT THE MARKET BECAUSE I WANTED TO TRY NEW THINGS BUT WHAT DO I DO WITH IT. IT SAYS WEDGES BUT MINE HAS LAYERS HELP. WHY IS FENNEL SO CONFUSING. ARE YOU SURE THIS IS DONE? thank god for FaceTime and camera phones.

The lazy woman’s dinner (or: the woman whose un-air conditioned kitchen is already over 80 degrees and doesn’t want to cook but is damn hungry): barely steamed organic lambsquarter, sautéed (pseudo-simmered?) Japanese baby turnips, and medium-boiled pastured egg on sprouted 7-grain toast. The slice of other toast has local raw honey (allergies be gone!). Yum!

The membrane under the shell is so much thicker on pastured eggs. Wow. I’m going to hope there aren’t nutrients in there that I could be eating….(on the other hand, ew, chicken equivalent of the amniotic sac). All that aside, pastured eggs are delicious.

Fiddlehead ferns were in plenty at Whole Foods! Modified this recipe http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/12065701/ns/today-food/t/rite-spring-fiddlehead-morel-salad/ with maitake mushrooms instead of morels, extra sharp white cheddar instead of gouda, and no vinegar. Delicious!

Today’s bento: tempeh with a soy-maple syrup glaze, raw broccoli, rice, blackberries, and steamed sweet potato drizzled with honey. My silicon muffin molds have mysteriously disappeared! :(

Today’s bento: rice with furikake, pan-steamed sweet potato drizzled with honey hidden by a broccoli forest (I think there’s actually about a third of a small/medium sweet potato there). Top layer is vegan chocolate brownie and strawberries.

Yesterday’s bento. I was worried that the banana wouldn’t last until lunch but I was right about the acidity of the kiwi and strawberries keeping it nice w/ very little browning. It also probably helped that I had it over the cold raw broccoli instead of over the rice.
